Some of us just do CrossFit, a lot of us are climbers and racers that like to go out and compete. Long standing member Lorne S. is in the latter group and is competing in his first ultra race this weekend. So far he's spent 19+ hours in his event with about 120 miles or so left today. Makes Murph look not so bad to me!
Anyhoo before he headed north, he sent me this email:
I thought I would throw this out to you even though it is not directly Crossfit related. I am doing my first ultra race this weekend, which you guys have helped me prepare for, in Oregon. I am doing it as part of a two person relay. The race is called Race Across Oregon. It is approximately 520 miles long with approximately 40,000 ft of elevation gain and we have a 46 hour time limit. Our team name is Team Simorgh, which is the totem I will be using for my big ultra race in October. If you are interested you can see our progress on their website: www.raceacrossoregon.com They have a blog link and Twitter feed too. Our goal is to finish it in about 36 hours. There is one other team in our division, which we hope to spank.
I just checked the race website and there is now a third team in our division. I know of one of the members and he is super strong and experienced. I had the opportunity to ride with him a couple of years ago in an event I did in Montana. He also has done RAAM (race across America) as a solo rider, which is no small feat. Regardless, I will be "getting after it" and plan to leave my stuff all over Oregon. Read into that as you see fit. :)
