Roz joined us back in early June of of 2009 and quickly became a fixture here at CFD. She's known for her gritty determination, positive attitude and constantly trying to make consistent progress. Looking at her records - estimate Roz has put in about 90 hours of class time with us along with a slew of WODS over at our good friends, CrossFit Solano. That effort to improve her work capacity across broad time and modal domains along with dialing in her nutrition has morphed her into a leaner, stronger, healthier and more athletic version of herself.
Here's what she has to say about her experience with the Zone diet during the Challenge along with some thoughts about CrossFit and CFD:
Before I started the Zone Diet on October 12th, eating constantly put me in a "food coma". I was eating food for comfort; because I was either bored or stressed out. I couldn't fit into any of my cute clothes. I had the "muffin top" ... I was always lethargic and just walking up four flights of stairs would have me panting for air and feeling light-headed. I didn't like my body; the way it looked and how I felt.
I was skeptical and hesitant about starting the Zone Diet. I thought that it would be like the other crash diets [I had done] and that I would fail. It sounded and looked restrictive and the block system confused me as well. Even so, I figured why not do the Sixty Day Nutrition Challenge? I'd use the materials CFD gave me and learn as I went. So, one week turned into weeks, weeks turned into a month and then months. It became a habit. So, even though the challenge is over, I'm still Zoning. It's just part of how I live now.
As for results – through Zoning and CrossFitting at CFD, I've lost 23 lbs! I also have way more stamina, endurance and energy during WODS and in my everyday life. At “The Box” I'm pushing my body like I've never done before. I feel great!
That said, I still have goals. I'd like to lean out a little more and continue to get stronger and faster. Also, I'm hoping to lower my total cholesterol by 10 points.
As for CrossFit, I truly love my experience at CFD. It's changed every aspect of my life. Socially speaking, it's great to see and meet people from different backgrounds, professions, and lifestyles at the "box". We're a community bonded together through the shared experience of sweating (and sometimes bleeding and bruising) that is just part of learning new sports.
Internally, the training, camaraderie and support have helped immensely. I'm healthier, for sure – but it's also allowed me to overcome physical, mental and emotional hurdles. I can do things that I never thought I could possibly do. I'm happier and have more self confidence. I CrossFit because I want to be an example to others that "If I can do it, then you can do it to." You can!
